DUO IBIZA is committed to helping abandoned dogs in Ibiza. DUO IBIZA takes care of the socialization, care and training of the dogs, promoting their physical abilities as well as emotional recovery in order to prepare the dogs as best as possible to become a member of a suitable family and thereby increase the chance of a new, beautiful dog life.
Every dog is different and has its own character, so we work with you individually and get to know your abilities and talents so that we can be sure to find the perfect home for you .

ABOUT US
In 1993, the animal welfare association Tierhilfe DUO Ibiza was founded by a small group of dedicated women on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza. Christiane Michel, two veterinarians, and her DUO team have tirelessly provided valuable animal welfare work on Ibiza for almost 30 years. After Christiane decided to leave the island at the end of 2021, the question arose: What will become of DUO? The abbreviation stands for Danos Una Oportunidad, which translates as "Give us a chance." Giving the island's many dogs in need a chance at a continued life and a safe haven is precisely what the organization should continue to do. This important work, with the unchanged goal of the past decades for the benefit of animals, will now be continued by some members of the team that has existed for 30 years and new members. Women power!
However, there was a small change in the name of the registered, non-profit organization at the beginning of 2023. Tierhilfe DUO Ibiza became DUO IBIZA Animal Rescue im Elke Schmidt.
Elke Schmidt was an animal rights activist all her life with a strong connection to Ibiza. She and her family spent a lot of time caring for stray dogs on Ibiza. Back in the early days of DUO, she took on her first of seven dogs, which she also placed with family members.
After a short, serious illness, Elke Schmidt passed away on August 5, 2022 at the age of 53. At Elke Schmidt's request, the family is now supporting the continued development of DUO. As a thank you for this generous act, it was decided to change the name of DUO with the addition "im Elke Schmidt".

Our Vera has been with DUO for 30 years. She loves not only dogs but also cats and is therefore committed to helping stray cats on Ibiza.

Giulia manages most of the day-to-day operations and also takes care of the adoption of most of the dogs, socialization, and social media.

Stephie has been an active DUO supporter for 1 year and takes loving care of all the dogs.

Sandra is a member of the board and supports the association in the administrative area of adoption.
